Downtown Columbia's emerging Merriweather District will soon add two new businesses to its slate of food and beverage offerings, GameOn Bar + Arcade and The Angry Jerk, a Caribbean-Southern fusion restaurant.
The concepts will open later this year in Juniper, a mixed-use building that opened in 2020 with 382 apartment units and 57,000 square feet of ground-level retail space across from the district's central Color Burst Park.
GameOn's Columbia location will be the third for the Annapolis-based arcade bar, which also has spots in Annapolis and Federal Hill. The 4,000-square-foot space will include retro and new arcade games, organized into alleys by decade, as well as graffiti wall art, craft cocktails and beers, and menu items such as pizza and wings accompanied by specialty sauces.
The arcade bar is owned and operated by Howard County residents Casey and Eli Linthicum. It will be limited to patrons 21 years of age and older after 8 p.m., but open to accompanied minors during the day.
The Angry Jerk also comes from a local owner, Chef Jason Miskiri, who is expanding his restaurant concept after first opening a location in Silver Spring at 8223 Georgia Ave. The tropical Caribbean fare will be served made-to-order in a 2,200-square-foot space, also in Juniper at 6000 Merriweather Drive.
Menu offerings include jerk sauce tacos and bowls with oxtail, shrimp, chicken and more, all with a Caribbean twist.
The new retailers were announced Wednesday, just a few days ahead of the grand opening of another new concept in the Merriweather District, Toastique. The 1,700-square-foot toast and juice bar is the Washington, D.C.-based concept's sixth in the region.
Toastique officially opens Saturday at 6201 Mango Treet Road, a standalone building at the west end of Color Burst Park, with both indoor and outdoor seating.
